Canon Support, after a long period of 'whose problem is it' did lead me through a work-around that kept me able to compensate. The problem is not a Canon driver issue, but as I understand, a Windows 10 timing issue. The solution that I was able to apply came from a referral from Canon Support to contact either MS or the computer manufacturer. VueScan is compatible with the Canon D1100 on Windows x86, Windows x64, Windows RT, Windows 10 ARM, Mac OS X and Linux. If you're using Windows and you've installed a Canon driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver. After you upgrade your computer to Windows 10, if your Canon Printer Drivers are not working, you can fix the problem by updating the drivers. It is possible that your Printer driver is not compatible with the newer version of Windows. You seem to have knowledge of the OS/driver development process. Maybe you can add information as to how the process should work. Based on what I was told, it sounds like Windows 10 worked with the then current Canon D1100 equipment drivers, and the release of one of the OS updates resulted in failure.
Here's a question for you and Canon: If Canon is responsible for ensuring the compatibility of their drivers with Windows 10 (and they are), how can incompatibility be a Microsoft problem?
Canon's position is that there is no ImageClass D1150 driver issue involved. I do not understand the specific details, and I hope that Microsoft will state their position on it here. Canon tells me emphatically, over a period of several months, that their driver is not the cause of the issue, and that many scanner makes and models are affected by an OS issue. This appears to be a firmly rooted Canon position and was said to me by two different support technicians.
I expect that the issue is well understood by the technical folks at Microsoft, and would like know if Microsoft believes that Canon is wrong, or if they are preparing to resolve this matter with a Windows 10 update.
Doing the workaround repetitively is getting to be very tiresome for me as a user. and based on tone of voice, appears to be tiresome for the Canon tech support staff as well.
